What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is used to guide the client into a deep level of relaxation, during which their subconscious is able to focus on and accept appropriate and beneficial life changing suggestions.

Most therapists have moved on from watch swinging and flickering flames to other simpler and faster ways of helping the client to relax and focus, thereby inducing a trance-like state, using such techniques as guided imagery and confusional techniques.

Hypnotherapy can be used to reprogram faulty patterns of behaviour, negative mindsets and unhealthy habits such as addictions, negative thoughts, suppressed emotions as well as helping with positive changes such as confidence building, motivation to succeed and many other applications which help clients to lead a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life.

How will I feel when I am being hypnotised?

It is normally a very pleasant experience and you can expect to feel extremely relaxed. People have different reactions to hypnosis. Some feel very light, as if they are floating, some feel very heavy as if they are sinking into the chair, some feel as if a lovely blanket has been wrapped around them. Everyone reacts differently.

How will you hypnotise me?

I will be speaking to you, via headphones, with calming music in the background, giving you suggestions and/or images specifically appropriate to your personality for you to visualise to capture and challenge your imagination.

Will I be asleep?

No, you will be in a light trance, similar to the feeling you have just before dropping off to sleep, a bit like day dreaming.

Who will be in control?

You will be in complete control throughout the hypnosis session and your subconscious, which is there for your protection, will simply snap out of hypnosis if there is any situation or suggestion that it is not happy with.

Will I remember everything you say to me?

It varies, depending a lot upon how exhausted you are! Most clients remember everything and some only remember parts of the session. However, I will be giving you a CD copy of the session for you to listen to as often as possible in your own time to reinforce the suggestions and make sure they are accepted by your subconscious.

Is there any risk associated with hypnotherapy?

There are no risks involved. However, hypnotherapy should only be carried out by a fully qualified hypnotherapist.

How many sessions will I need?

This obviously depends upon what it is you wish to achieve. Some clients only need one session. Normally, a maximum of 4 sessions would be recommended, with maybe a follow up session after some time to check that all is going well.
